Well its raining here in the alps so thought I'd tidy up my posts into my own thread, so I'll start off with a thread I had saved then add some bits to the bottom.

I am building a 3dr tipo 16 to race in the uK in the euro saloons championship which used to be the autoitalia championship. the tipo was mine a number of years ago, I sold it, but now I have bought it back to rebuild
Here is it before it was stripped 53k miles fulls service history

underneathe was fully de-sealed sand seam welded along with pretty much any other join.

too this now taken after painting

cage is cds tubing, with triangulation on the front struts, which also have extra plates added on top. there is a dash bar, and sill to tunnel mounts for the seat.

The engine for the race car is fully blue printed and gas flowed. Still a mild class c spec. Will develop the car one its done some races. Body has been fully stitch welded with the front struts connected to the cage.

the engine, built by the chap who has done one or two of these.

paddle helix

ah look at this pro at work, like my workshop yeah right

centre console hand folded by my fair hand and a piece of wood, and a mallet

rear view with corbeau revolution seat, as reccommended by my friend graham heels, who won the alfa championship a few tears ago, he reckoned the wrap around head protection saved his life during a tyre wall impact - good enough reason for me. Just got 3inch luke 5 point harness to go with it. The tipo driving position is a bit high but on max height I still cant see that well over the front, will worry about this later as the car isnt on the flat so it may not be so bad.

delta evo2 brembos

new steering rack, notice poly bushes they were easy to fit- yeah right.

at last the trigger wheel is made, meaning I can finally get the engine ready to go in,

here the engine a bit more assembled, loom has been soldered. but didnt show it in this pic, what a fun job.

racetech gauges as rec by GC, dam they cost a lot, but the cheaper boyracer gauges just look and feel ****.

Rich, what are the plans for 09? LMA seems to have moved on again, come and play with us!

Experience counts :-)

Mechanical problem: pulling 6000rpm in 6th, braking for Becketts and brake pedal hit the floor. Flew across the gravel trap, across the grass and went so far off I had to buy a ticket to get back on the circuit

ThanksTrev. Incidentally Trev gave me a lesson in maximising the start...and he was sod to get past, eventually needing a mechnical problem. Only needed another 10secs of video to get that bit but alas the tape ran out. I'll you tube that -I didn't sign nothin'!!

Big congrats to Rich today as he collected his first trophy for a third in class in LMA Euro Saloons at Silverstone. Only beaten by a Honda Integra and Renault Megane Coupe (that is basically a Clio Cup in Megane shell)

Bacci items were bought Direct from Bacci in italy. Perhaps i could have got them from madeno racing and paid Netherlands sales tax instead of Italian 20% sales Tax...dang.

Fiat 2.0 16v fully developed could be a 300bhp engine without doubt, but it would need engine dyno time and a budget to test configurations, really incremental stuff not for a club racer like me. One make series with control engine then it would be but not the case here. Who knows one day I might get some more dev done but the money I have spent so far is obscene.

Trev - white numbers arrived today.

Wow very impressed tbh didnt know they are so tuneable. Also just to ask here was the bacci r gear box items bought from the uk or direct from italy?
nyssa7 Posted - 29 May 2008 : 08:00:48
Standard as in no forged rods/pistons because they are not allowed under the regs Rich races - but certainly not standard in terms of as Fiat built originally made it. Guy Croft will have ensured its as strong as can be within the regs

Am i right in thinking that your still using a standad bottom end??
randomspeedfreak Posted - 28 May 2008 : 19:14:37

very nice
sedicirich Posted - 28 May 2008 : 16:57:03
It's back, it works and it's racing on Saturday at Silverstone with our mate in his Lancia Limosine.
GC engine 05.73.1

Cable conversion to Bacci equipped box

New inside and shifter (if only I had seen Kason's advert last year earlier)

OJZ exhaust

Over 200 bhp, still on std manifold and un optomised inlet length - we'll not chase the HP anymore, time to get it back out on the track.

The only tech regs that I know of are here:

http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/documents/GrandPrixRacewearTinTopsReguations.doc

It says "standard induction type" & not "standard inlet".. I think that you would be fine.
sedicirich Posted - 01 May 2008 : 19:55:57
oh ok I have a new set of r888's so that takes care of that, but I see I'm meant to run std inlet which obviously Im not. I wonder if the guest class will allow it. Not likely to win still waring my black and yellow cross.

Rich

Am I correct in thinking that your car is a 16V 2 litre? The rules are very easy & there are not many! You would definately be eligible for Class A (and if its a 2 litre 8V Car, for Class B). The series runs on List 1A or 1B tyres - most are on Yoko A048s or Toyo R888s. If you have a look at the CSCC web site you'll see the results from last year and this, so can compare times between yourself and others. To be honest, the couple of Integra DC5s in Class A usually run away with things at the front but that doesn't stop the rest of us having very good battles (both within class and between classes) and I am sure that you'd be competitive - A Citroen Xsara 16v came third at Brands in the wet!! Ultimately I think that LMA is a quicker series for the majority, but our racing is still close & enjoyable, plus loads of track time.

Its great VFM, we get pit garages at most races with the scrutineers coming to us - very civilised - and I think the panel damage in the last couple of races has just been a bit unlucky really. Remembe that there's a compulsory pit stop so you can change drivers if you want to share with someone (and therefore share costs).

I haven't tested at Mallory but have driven their a few times when I tried single seaters so I know my way round.
sedicirich Posted - 01 May 2008 : 13:21:07
Andy you know the rules would I gain entry to a class in CSCC? I think we could be full for every grid in the LMA, thus alternatives are welcome. Did you do any testing at Mallory?
